Product Specific Questions

Q: Are Material Safety Data Sheets available for items purchased from this site?

A: Yes- Please visit our "Home Page" and simply click the arrow next to "General Information" and select the "MSDS Search"option. In addition, you can also access material safety data sheets by choosing "General Information", then select the "Product Search" option. To print a copy of the material safety data sheet, click the MSDS icon, then click the print button on your browser. You will need the free Adobe Acrobat reader to view and print these files.

Q: Are technical information sheets available for items purchased from this site?

A: Yes- Technical Information Sheets can be obtained by selecting the "Product Search" option. Click the arrow next to "Tradename" and select the appropriate "product line". Next, click the "search button" then, click the appropriate "Tradename" link to access a printable "Technical Information Sheet." Technical Information Sheets can also be accessed from our On-line catalog by clicking the arrow next to "Customer Service" and selecting the "Browse the Catalog" option.

Q: Can I obtain certificates of Analysis for previously shipped items from this web site?

A: Yes- If you know the specific batch number, you can access the certificate of analysis by clicking the "Customer Service" button, and then selecting the "Find C of A" option. Next, enter your "Customer Number" and "Password", then press enter. Finally, enter the batch number to obtain a copy of the certificate of analysis.

Q: Can I still obtain a certificate of analysis if I don't know my specific batch number?

A: Yes- You can still access certificates of analysis by clicking the "Customer Service" button, then selecting the "track orders" option. Enter your "customer number" "password" and if known, all pertinent information pertaining to the sales order, purchase order number, or order date. Next, from the "List of selected orders" click on the specific sales order number to see more details, then select "click here for More Details." Finally, click the "C of A" button in order to view the items certificate of analysis.

Q: Can I obtain Bill of Ladings for previously shipped orders?

A: Yes- Simply click the "Customer Service" button, then select the "Track Orders" option. Enter your "customer number" "password" and if known, the "sales order number", "purchase order number" and order date, then click the "login" button. From the "List of selected orders" click the "Sales Order" to see more details for that order. Next, select "Click here for More Details", then click "Bill of Lading."

Q: Can I trace or check the status of my previously placed orders?

A: Yes- Simply click the arrow next to "Customer Service" and select the option for Track Orders. Next, enter your "Customer Number" and "Password", then click the "Login" button. Follow the specified instructions in order to view the details for a specific order number.

Q: Does Akzo Nobel have a technical support team?

A: Yes- Akzo Nobel has chemists on staff between the hours of 8:30am-4pm, Monday-Friday CST to answer questions pertaining to applications and properties of our products. Please contact your customer service representative at CSRUSA@akzonobel.com or by calling toll free at 1-888-238-1558.

Q: How can I determine the temperature at which a product solidifies or liquifies?

A: Please refer to the specific product's technical data sheet located in our product search section, or by contacting our customer service representatives at CSRUSA@akzonobel.com or by calling toll free at 1-888-238-1558.

Q: Are all of Akzo Nobel's products listed in TSCA?

A: Please refer to the Product Search section of our site or contact our customer service representatives at or by calling toll free at 1-888-238-1558.

Q: What is the standard shelf life for Akzo Nobel's products?

A: To the best of our knowledge that when stored in original container under normal ambient conditions, the shelf life should be in excess of 5 years.

Q: How often do you update your data?

A: We are continually updating the data in the Akzo Nobel webserver, but we generally try to 'save up' the changes to minimize downtime. On average, our server gets updated in some fashion about once a week. All data is not changed during an update.

Q: What if I can't find a match for a product I'm looking for?

A: If you can't find a match or have a question about a product after viewing our product search page, send your question to "Ask Dr. Farmer" at CSRUSA@akzonobel.com or call 312-906-7548. Dr. Robert Farmer, and staff, will be available to answer questions between 8:30am and 4pm CST Monday through Friday.

 

How to Order, Product Availability and Online Ordering

 

Q: What are the standard packaging sizes for Akzo Nobel products?

A: Akzo Nobel's products are ordinarily packed in 55 gallon drums and depending on the specific product, their net weights will vary. There are however exceptions where some products are packed in smaller quantity packages such as 55 pound cartons, 100 pound drums or 200 pound drums. Please refer to the price list for net weight and package sizes/types or contact our customer service department via email at CSRUSA@akzonobel.com or by calling toll free at 1-888-238-1558.

Q: What is a "TH, OH, and /or THL" drum pack?

A: The two letter designation refers to the specific type of head or lining of the drum. For example, a TH is a tight head drum, an OH is an open head and a THL is a tight head lined drum. Follow this link for a complete, detailed list of the package types we ship our products in.

Q: Does Akzo Nobel supply specialty products that are not listed on the standard price list? If so, are there minimum quantities involved?

A: Yes, Akzo Nobel does produce specialty products. Please contact our customer service department at CSRUSA@akzonobel.com or 1-888-238-1558 for specific products and minimum quantities.

Q: Will a product's date of manufacture appear on the certificate of analysis?

A: Unless you have a special specification approved by Akzo Nobel, the date of manufacture will not appear on the certificate of analysis. It is however possible to show the date of manufacture on the bill of lading for our products complying with Akzo Nobel's standard specifications.

Q: Does Akzo Nobel offer samples and if so, what is the standard sample size?

A: Yes, Akzo Nobel will supply no charge samples. The standard sample size is 8 ounces. To obtain no charge samples, simply click on the "Browse our Catalog" option. Click on the "Nitrogens Derivatives General Catalog", then "Fatty Amines" and finally, click on the product(s) that you are interested in. Next, choose the specific item that you want to order, click "add to list", then "complete your order." Finally, click "Click here to order the samples" complete the "Sample Request Order Form and responsible Care questionaire, then click "Order Samples.

Q: Will I be charged a fee for a standard sample?

A: Generally, eight(8) ounce samples are free and will also be shipped within the United States via RPS at no charge to the customer. Akzo Nobel does, however, reserve the right to charge for samples or refuse to ship samples free of charge.

Q: What is the lead time for standard products?

A: While the majority of our standard products are generally readily available, lead times will vary depending on the specific material being ordered, the total quantity ordered as well as when the order is placed. A customer service representative will send an email response to all customers with the actual ship date and estimated delivery date after all orders have been processed and approved for shipment. Q: Does Akzo Nobel sell product in 5 gallon containers?

A: Akzo Nobel does not sell product in 5 gallon pails. However, we do have an agreement with Jacaab LLC, a re-packager, that does sell our products specifically in 5 gallon containers.

Q: If necessary to return a product, what is Akzo Nobel's return policy?

A: Please refer to our terms and conditions section of our site.

Q: I'm looking to purchase a product in my local area. Does Akzo Nobel sell its products through authorized distributors?

A: In most cases we market and sell our products directly to end users. If a distributor is located in your area and is authorized to sell the product(s) you are interested in, you will be directed to the distributor.

Q: If I have never purchased anything from Akzo Nobel and would like to become a customer, what steps must I take before I can purchase material?

A: Simply complete the registration and responsible care forms, or contact our customer service department via email at CSRUSA@akzonobel.com or by dialing toll free at 1-888-238-1558. Remember, all registration information is treated in accordance with our privacy policy .

Q: Why do I have to register?

A: Two reasons. First, the NACD Responsible Distribution Initiative requires that we confirm the identities of all customers prior to shipment. Secondly, your registration information allows us to process your orders. We also view the registration information as a sign of good faith, and reserve the right to deny shipment to anyone who provides false information.

Q: I just registered and it immediately asked me to register again?

A: You probably didn't complete the form in its entirety. Make sure all of the mandatory fields (they're labeled as mandatory) are filled out. If you are unable to complete the form online, contact our customer service department at CSRUSA@akzonobel.com or 1-888-238-1588.

Q: I registered yesterday/last week/last month and it asked me to register again today?

A: You most likely entered the wrong username or password on the login screen. If you have forgotten your username or password, please email our Customer Service Dept. at CSRUSA@akzonobel.com and we will be happy to reset it for you. Otherwise, try logging in again making sure to type your username and password exactly as you did when you registered (check the case).

Q: How can I be sure that my information is secure when used in Akzo Nobel's web site?

A: Our secure socket layer (SSL) software is the industry standard and among the best software available for secure commerce transactions. We maintain a secure site and allow you to verify that your transactions are sent and received only between yourself and our site, by verifying each transaction with a "site certificate" issued by Verisign. Visit the Verisign website to see more about website security and digital certificates.

Q: How can I find what I need quickly?

A: Refer to our product search option where you can search by:

  • Trade name (Armeen, Ethomeen,...)
  • Chemical family (Amines, Amides,...)
  • Subcategory (Primary, Secondary Amines,...)
  • Chain length (C8 or C10)
  • Properties (Emulsifier, Antistat,...)
  • Applications (Bar Soap, Acid Cleaner,...)
  • Common Chemical Name (eg: Ethoxylated Cocoalkylamine )

Q: What happens after I place my first order?

A: After we receive your order and obtain credit approval, your order will be processed. Prior to shipment, you will receive an email confirmation referencing your order number, carrier of choice, estimated shipping date and estimated delivery date. Please be sure that the eMail address you provided in your customer profile is where you would like to receive the confirmation.

Q: What payment options will I have to pay for my orders?

A: Visa and Mastercard, will be accepted for payment. In addition to these credit cards options, cash in advance, in the form of a company certified check, will also be accepted. In the future, we will offer ACH transfers and other electronic debit options. If you do not have a credit card, or would like to apply for a business credit card account, visit the website to apply online .

Q: If I use my credit card for payment, will I still receive an invoice?

A: Yes. Once we receive and post payment toward your account, you will be able to view and print an invoice for your records, online.

Q: How do I start placing orders?

A: After completing all of the required information on our registration form (including the Responsible Care Questionnaire), you can view our product catalog or add new items to your shopping cart. While processing your order, you will be able to modify quantities, change your ship to address and add special comments if necessary. You must enter payment information and click on the "Order" button for us to receive and process your order.

Q: After my order is placed, when will my order arrive?

A: All shipments are shipped according to the customer's specific choice of carrier on a collect basis. Unfortunately, we can not determine delivery dates since they vary depending on the carrier selected. If you have questions regarding product prices or availability contact your customer service representative at CSRUSA@akzonobel.com or 1-888-238-1558.

Q: Sometimes my order requires special attention such as specific batch numbers or special shipping and handling instructions. Will I be able to communicate these instructions to Akzo Nobel?

A: From our "Order List/Summary Page" you will be able to add special instructions,carrier notes and miscellaneous notes to your order. These instructions will be attached to the order and sent to Akzo Nobel during order transmission.

 

Q: My organization is tax exempt. How can I make sure I'm not charged tax?

A: When you fill out your online registration/responsible care application, be sure to include your tax exempt certificate number. You will then need to send a copy of this certificate via email at CSRUSA@akzonobel.com or via fax at 1-312-906-7578 or US mail. If we do not have a copy of your certificate on file, we must charge applicable taxes.

Q: What if I have an order that I would like to have shipped outside the US. Will Akzo Nobel accommodate my needs?

A: We will be processing all orders that will be shipping within the United States, Canada and Mexico. If the requested shipping destination is other than stated above, the order will be forwarded to the closest Akzo Nobel Sales Office for processing and they will contact you directly.

Q: If all I need at this time is a catalog showing the various products that Akzo Nobel provides, can I order it via this internet site?

A: Yes. Please contact us via e-mail at CSRUSA@akzonobel.com or by phone at 1-888-238-1558 with a contact name, address, phone and fax number or you can browse our online product catalog.

Q: I'm interested in using your internet on-line ordering system but can't use a credit card. Can I order with a purchase order and be afforded the opportunity to pay with open terms such as net 30 days?

A: We will accept all forms of payment which includes Visa, MasterCard, ACH transfers, auto debits, and certified company checks prior to shipment date. Net 30 day terms are contingent upon credit approval from Akzo Nobel. Akzo Nobel reserves the right to accept or deny open term credit.

 Q: Is Akzo Nobel ISO certified?

A: Yes, Akzo Nobel is ISO 9002/ANSI/ISO/ASQC Q9002 certified through BVQI ( Bureau Veritas Quality International Inc.) The scope this certification covers is marketing, sales, customer service, and sampling of fatty acid derivatives and specialty surface chemicals.

Q: If I am in need of recycling drums, does Akzo Nobel have a program in place for assistance?

A: Yes, Akzo Nobel is pleased to inform you about our new steel drum recycling service. The program is called Magnet and is provided and managed by Trilla Steel Drum Corporation . The Magnet service is designated to meet our mutual responsible care needs by offering an alternative to drum disposal. For further information, please call Trilla directly at 1-800-669-DRUM (3786). Q: If I am have problems viewing your web site with my current browser, can you recommend the most appropriate browser and version that should be used to view your web site?

A: Yes- We recommend that you use either Netscape version 5.0 or higher or Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher for the best results when using our web site. The pages are optimized for 1024 x 768 resolution.

Q: What is going to happen to the information I give when I register?

A: Your registration information is used for internal demographic purposes only. Based on the Akzo Nobel privacy policy , we do not sell, rent or give information to other companies for any reason. Registration address information is required for shipping and credit verification. Orders can not be processed without required registration data.
